  1. Bring a water sample to Swim Rite: follow water test directions and add recommended chemicals.

  4. Lower the water level: lower the water 2-4 inches below the skimmer for a solid cover. Or 12 inches from the top of the coping, for a Loop Loc Cover.
  5. Shut down electrical/gas systems: and remove any fuses/breakers that control power to the pool.
  6. Winterize the pool: drain and winterize your filter, pump, heater, automatic chlorinator, and any exposed pipes to avoid freezing and breaking. Because this is a total shutdown of the pool, make sure there is no water in any part of the plumbing system, by blowing air back into pool threw pipes. The pipes should have the winter plugs put into them at this time.  Add a non-toxic swimming pool antifreeze – RV antifreeze can promote the growth of algae (one gallon for every 10 feet of line.).
  7. Winterize skimmer: Pour Antifreeze into hole of skimmer, place gizmo into hole of skimmer then, place Styrofoam in the box of skimmer. This keeps water from getting into the skimmer and cracking it
  8. Clean and store equipment: Remove the diving board, ladder, and solar cover. Store the board flat to prevent warping.
  9. Add winterizing chemicals: add liquid chlorine for every 5,000 gallons of water, add winterizing kit according to gallonage either 10,000 Gallon Kit or 20,000 Gallon Kit, then add Pool Magic Spring & Fall.
  10. Cover pool-Solid Covers: Cover pool with winter cover. Place water tubes around cover making sure that they overlap by about one foot.  Fill with water till about 2/3 full.  Add 2 to 4 inches of water on top of winter cover.
  11. Cover pool-Loop Loc Covers: Pop up Brass Anchors, attach straps to tool then, pull springs onto anchors. Repeat for each spring.
